What course intends to achieve?

The course lays the foundation for engineering design and streamlines thinking pattern of young minds. The primary endeavour of this module is to map everything to product development and make the candidate industry ready for OEM design and analysis assignments. The entire course is delivered via Bloom’s taxonomy, with 2D and 3D animations.

  • How do you idealise systems for hand calculations. Example: Could we idealise windmill tower as a cantilevered beam with lumped
    mass?
  • Why design is driven by operating conditions. Example: Temperature has multiple effects such as reduction in vibration and buckling
    margin, contribution to stress, contribution to excess deflection etc. Temperature degrades mechanical and fatigue properties\
  • How constraints could affect the stiffness and load capacity of a component. Example: A simply supported beam has lesser capacity
    than a fixed -fixed beam for the same material and geometr
  • How a crack on a pressure cylinder (idealised fuselage) must be oriented for rate of propagation to be minimum.
  • How bearing support structure influences the natural frequency of shaft system.

Hundreds of such questions pertaining to component design situations are answered in this course. Thus, building design thinking, understanding of design margins, knowledge on material selection and ability to conceive failures.

Simulation component : What it intends to achieve?

Today, design is driven by simulation since concepts are verified against various strength failures using simulation. This module primarily makes the candidates familiar with simulation procedures and best practices. Emphasis is given to geometry and
material modeling and result interpretation. The highlight of the component is 1500 plus slides of lecture of Ansys workbench and space claim coupled with several mini case-studies and workshops

Evaluation

Simulation tests are designed to check familiarity of the candidate with all facilities of the tool and understanding of boundary conditions and result interpretation.
